Texas is unquestionably the energy capital of the United States – if not the world! The state generates massive amounts of every kind of energy – from oil and gas to solar and wind.
However, because the energy comes from so many different sources, it isn’t coordinated as efficiently as it can be. The result? Some of the energy is wasted, rather than going to Texas homes and businesses because the agencies aren’t working together to use their programs to reduce energy waste. This nightmare will only get worse as demand increases.
Reducing energy waste is crucial to lowering bills, enhancing the resilience of the grid, and more. A bill before the state Senate (HB 5323) seeks to fix this issue by establishing the Texas Energy Waste Advisory Committee. This committee would be comprised of several agencies that have oversight of or interact with the grid.
This bill passed the state legislature. Email the Senate and Gov. Abbott today!
