New Mexico deserves more affordable energy!

Smarter use of existing resources can reduce costs, without asking customers to give up comfort or reliability

Why It Matters

New Mexico’s electric system faces rising costs —especially during peak demand when the grid is most expensive to operate. We can lower costs by using flexible, community-based technologies already present in homes and businesses to reduce peak demand and add capacity when it’s needed most.

Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) coordinate many community-based devices (like solar, batteries, smart thermostats, and EV charging) so that they act like a single resource. When these devices are coordinated, they can reduce peak demand, improve reliability, and lower overall system costs.

With Trump attacking clean energy at the federal level, New Mexico needs every solution we can harness to keep moving forward in our fight for affordable clean energy.

What's The Solution?

The GRID Act would require New Mexico’s utilities to develop programs and incentives that enable customers and businesses to enroll eligible technologies to provide grid services when needed. By reducing peak demand and avoiding unnecessary infrastructure costs, these programs can help lower bills over time and make the grid more resilient.
