Counterspark Launches “Meet the Moment” Campaign Urging Governors to Lead the Clean Energy Boom in 2026
Six-figure paid campaign targets key states as federal leaders side with polluters and block affordable energy
WASHINGTON, DC — As Washington sells out to polluters and utility interests driving up costs and slashing American jobs, Counterspark today launched its “Meet the Moment” campaign, a six-figure digital and advocacy effort calling on governors and state leaders to fight back by lowering costs and creating jobs by investing in cleaner, cheaper energy. The campaign will roll out in Michigan, New Jersey, and Virginia.
“Families need relief from rising energy costs, and clean energy delivers it faster and cheaper than anything else. Instead of lowering bills as promised, the Trump Administration has chosen to subsidize polluters and is now standing in the way of a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rebuild American manufacturing through clean energy,” said Kim Jemaine, managing director of Counterspark. “States do not have to accept that failure and instead can lead in this defining moment.”
Clean energy already supports more than 3.5 million American jobs, including 127,854 in Michigan, 62,299 in New Jersey, and 102,649 in Virginia. These jobs put installers, electricians, construction crews, and manufacturers to work while strengthening local economies. Meanwhile, protecting polluters instead of clean energy is projected to cost the U.S. economy nearly $1 trillion over the next decade.
Clean energy is also the most affordable source of new electricity. After decades of cost declines, solar power now costs as little as $38 per megawatt-hour, cheaper than fossil fuels like natural gas ($45–$90) and coal ($90–$160). Solar and battery storage projects can also be built in 18–24 months, far faster than new gas plants that often take nearly a decade to build.
“Polluters are obsessed with profits, even if it means higher prices for Americans,” added Jemaine. “Big utilities and fossil fuel companies cling to outdated systems that raise costs, block job-creating clean energy, and keep families locked into expensive power. Federal leaders have chosen to protect those interests, freezing investment and sending clean energy manufacturing overseas at a moment when America should be building at home.”
The Meet the Moment campaign will run through 2026 with paid digital advertising focused on affordability, job creation, and the critical role of state leadership.
