Counterspark Calls Out Extreme Congressional Lawmakers Over Tax Attacks That Will Destroy U.S. Jobs, Help China

WASHINGTON DC – National climate and clean energy advocacy group Counterspark launched a new wave of digital ads in five Congressional districts, shining a spotlight on several extreme Representatives who have advocated for proposals that would destroy jobs in their districts and undermine America’s competitive advantages against China.

“For too long these Members of Congress have advocated for irresponsible cuts to clean energy policies that would kill jobs in their districts while helping China gain a competitive advantage. It’s time they were held to account for their attacks on American clean energy jobs,” said Kim Jemaine, Managing Director of Counterspark.

“We saw their ideas wreak havoc when the Freedom Caucus demanded drastic, 11th hour changes to the reconciliation bill in May. The Senate has been working to undo their damage, but we should all be concerned they will try to do it again,” added Jemaine. “We’re warning the people they represent that their actions are threatening economic growth and good-paying jobs in their own backyard.”

Counterspark is investing in digital advertising in five congressional districts across three states where billions in clean energy investments, and tens of thousands of jobs*, would be jeopardized by an abrupt and reckless end to long-standing energy tax policies. Those districts are:

Arizona’s 9th District – Rep. Gosar / Over 10,300 jobs at risk

Arizona’s 5th District – Rep. Biggs / Almost 8,200 jobs at risk

Arizona’s 2nd District – Rep. Crane / Over 1,700 jobs at risk

Texas’s 27th District – Rep. Cloud / Almost 7,500 jobs at risk

Pennsylvania’s 10th District – Rep. Perry / Almost 400 jobs at risk

The ad campaign comes as Congress nears final passage of the reconciliation package that would extend President Trump’s tax cuts and change tax and spending policies around energy, healthcare, homeland security, and defense.
