With Virginia election one month away, Counterspark Backs Clean Energy Champs Across Commonwealth

Early voting already underway in an election which could decide whether Virginia leads or lags

RICHMOND, VA – With the November 4th general election just 34 days away and in-person early voting now open, Counterspark is making one of the largest political investments in support of clean energy in Virginia this cycle, investing $620,000 across 15 critical races. The goal: to defend and expand the Commonwealth’s clean energy momentum in the face of federal rollbacks.

“Virginia is taking center stage,” said Kim Jemaine, Managing Director of Counterspark, a national climate and clean energy advocacy organization. “From rolling back vital incentives for building clean energy to removing clean air safeguards, those in power in Washington D.C. are dismantling decades of work to reduce emissions and tackle climate change. The Trump Administration is trying to drag us backward — and we need leaders in Virginia to step up to stop them. We’re supporting 15 candidates who will fight for cleaner air, lower bills, and an energy future that prioritizes people, not polluters. We either let Trump’s rollbacks further drive up energy bills and make it harder to keep the lights on, or we prove that Virginia is committed to a more affordable and reliable 100% clean energy future.”

Legislative races in the Commonwealth are expected to be closely watched nationwide as indicators of how voters are reacting to the Trump Administration’s policy changes, including rollbacks of clean energy incentives that are driving energy prices even higher. These rollbacks are expected to cost Virginia up to $3.1 billion annually in economic investment and 17,000 jobs. Plus, households can expect their energy bills to increase by $250 by 2035.
