Virginia needs more clean energy – fast!

Building clean energy can help delay environmental catastrophe

  • Why It Matters

Hampton Roads is at the forefront of the climate crisis, with recurrent flooding happening now and sea levels expected to rise in coming years. If we want to protect our communities, we must do everything in our power to speed the transition to clean energy and reduce harmful emissions. In Virginia, this imperative must be top of mind for decision-makers.

  • What’s the Solution?

Solar is the cheapest form of electricity, but if you can’t build it, you can’t benefit from it. In 2020, Virginia passed major clean energy legislation but right now, politically motivated county boards are denying clean energy projects despite the well documented benefits. These projects bring local tax revenue, create jobs, and help reduce emissions.

We need a solution that incorporates the voices of the community while also balancing Virginia’s need and obligation to build clean energy.

States across the country have already streamlined processes to quickly build clean energy. Now, it’s Virginia’s turn!

  • What Can I Do?

We anticipate the state legislature will take up legislation on this topic in 2025. Email your state legislators today to remind them that we need energy now, and clean energy is both a climate solution and an economic choice!
