Gov. Pritzker: Say No to Higher Utility Bills for Illinoisans!
Veto HB 3445 to stop utility monopolies from driving energy rates even higher.
-
Why It Matters
Late in the legislative session, Illinois lawmakers quickly passed an amendment that would favor the state’s biggest, most powerful utility companies. This “right of first refusal” amendment would give monopoly utilities first pick at new transmission projects in Illinois, essentially blocking competitors who can build the same projects at a lower cost. Without much-needed competition in the energy space, wealthy monopolies will decide how new transmission projects are built and what you would pay as a consumer – decisions that will inevitably prioritize profits over people and threaten to raise prices.

What’s the Solution?
To protect Illinois consumers, we need to defeat HB 3445. Unfortunately, utility monopolies have been pushing hard for this bill because they want to limit competition and maximize their profits. Governor Pritzker needs to hear from real Illinoisans just as loudly.

What Can I Do?
While the bill has already passed, we still have a chance to stop it by urging Governor Pritzker to veto it. We’ve pre-written a letter to send directly to the governor’s office, but you can add in a personal note if you would like.
