• Why It Matters

  Our power lines are old and in dire need of an upgrade. They’re struggling to handle the current power load, but with our clean energy transition, even more electricity is being connected to the grid every day. Our current system can’t keep up, especially with more extreme weather systems hitting our cities more often. What’s more: a lot of legislators aren’t paying attention to this problem, but we need to fix it before it’s too late.

• What’s the Solution?

  There are many overlapping solutions, ranging from as big as reform of regional entities like PJM – a group that coordinates energy over several states to as small as adding low-cost sensors to improve the flow of electricity through existing power lines.
