Upgrade Colorado’s grid to lower consumer bills!

Advanced transmission technologies work quickly, are inexpensive, and can lower bills ASAP

Why It Matters

Power lines in Colorado, like in much of the country, are old and outdated, so energy doesn’t flow as efficiently as when they were originally constructed. With more power coming onto the grid all the time, that makes the problem even worse. New transmission lines are needed, but they can be expensive and take a long time to build. Nationally, every year, utility customers spend $20.8 BILLION on the congestion caused by not having enough transmission capacity.

What's The Solution?

HB 26-1081 can help. This bill would require utility transmission plans to consider advanced transmission technologies (ATTs). ATTs are a set of tools that can optimize our existing transmission infrastructure, allowing power to flow more efficiently without immediately requiring new power lines. It would also require utilities to consider ways to lower the cost of new transmission – a perfect use case for ATTs.
