Battery Storage: Clean, Backup Power
Batteries lower our electricity bill and help weather the storm. What’s more, they help make the grid more reliable for us all.
-
Why It Matters
Michigan’s utilities are among the most unreliable in the country. Battery storage is essential for having backup power during outages and being independent from the grid. Owners of battery systems can also receive credit for enrolling their system in a program that allows the grid to draw power from it when demand is high. In many states, utilities actually offer an up-front rebate for you to install a battery system, but in Michigan, utilities are opposed because they don’t directly profit.

What’s the Solution?
Right now, in front of legislators are two bills—one that would allow customers to access rebates for battery storage and another to earn money from participating in the grid—both through their utility.

What Can I Do?
Ask your representatives to pass these bills before the end of the year—if they don’t hear from you, they won’t take action.
