Expanding Offshore Wind in Maryland

Passing Maryland’s POWER act into law would help power millions of homes with renewable energy

• Why It Matters

  Maryland is a leader in accelerating the energy transition having committed to 100% clean energy by 2040. To achieve this target the state is going to need to maximize investments in offshore wind. Doing so will create thousands of new jobs and result in lower costs for consumers.

• What’s the Solution?

  The POWER Act will triple Maryland’s offshore wind target to 8.5 Gigawatts of energy. That’s enough clean energy to power between 1.3 and 17 million homes. Studies have shown that making these investments could save consumers between $4.7 and $28.5 billion (with a B) on energy bills. This is a solution that provides cleaner energy, thousands of new jobs, and lower costs!

  While the bill has been introduced in both the state House and state Senate, it has a long way to go to become the law, but things are moving quickly.
